We maintain a standard of excellence, and value great pedigrees, exceptional personalities and impeccable structure. All genetic testing is done before breeding. Most of our males are shown in conformation and/or performance. We stand our studs to approved females only. We provide buyers with a health/wellness guarantee, great information for raising a puppy, a collar & leash, microchip, vaccination record, toys, food and bones to help your puppy get off to a good start. 74 Ranch has just a few Mini females on the ranch and a few living with co-owners in Montana and California. We test for HC, PRA/PRCD, MDR1, DM, CEA, OFA and CERF. We carefully select females based on pedigree, conformation and character traits. Our goal is to continually improve the breed. Our girls have titles in agility, herding, conformation, rally, obedience, disc dog, doggy dancing and nosework! About Our Mini American/Mini Aussie Program
74 Ranch is a small, family owned and operated breeder of quality Miniature American Shepherds (AKA Mini Aussies). We are located in Southeast Wyoming and all our puppies are raised as part of our family here on the ranch. We have no males that live with us but have wonderful guardian homes (that they live with in Colorado, Idaho and other areas of Wyoming) for the outstanding sires of our puppies. To stay small we only have 3 females that live in our home - other females are also in guardian/pet homes. Our dogs love to play and are very active but they can calm down and are controllable as well. It is important for us to produce dogs that are a pleasure to live with, easy to train, intelligent, with good social skills, as well as structural soundness and good examples of the breed. We are constantly evaluating our program for excellence, and do our best to guard against genetic diseases or problems. We provide buyers with a contract, health/wellness guarantee, 30 month guarantee on hips/eyes and genetic issues, microchip, collar/leash, and vaccination record. We even supply toys, food and bones, as well as other 'goodies', with each puppy to help them get off to a happy start in their new homes. We offer long-term advice and counsel as needed. We are the first/only breeder of Mini American/Aussies and the only Wyoming breeder listed on the Puppy Culture Breeder's Map meaning we raise our puppies the Puppy Culture way!
We have competed in NADAC, AKC, ASA and MASCA. In September 2017 we became MASCA Hall of Fame Breeders! Our Minis are scattered throughout the US - from New York to California- and Canada. In January 2019 we took most of our dogs AKC Miniature American, since then we have taken them all to AKC.
At 74 Ranch, we are continually striving to produce the "full package" dogs - great structure, healthy, athletic, smart, willing, good drive, and outstanding temperaments. Before breeding, we test our dogs for PRA/PRCD, DM, Collie Eye Anomaly, Hereditary Cataracts, CERF, MDR1, and OFA (hips, elbows and patellas). We only repeat breedings from the most consistent litters, so we keep our standards high.
As we strive to breed for the 'whole package', our dogs are out trialing in performance events - agility, rally, obedience, acrobatics (doggy dancing), disc dog, etc then walk in the conformation and WIN! We keep only those puppies for our program which will improve the breed in both structure and personality, especially looking at resilience to bounce back after something traumatic happens. We do not keep a pup from every litter, it depends on how that litter evaluates, we are looking for puppies to keep from consistent litters so they will throw that to the future of our program. Some litters we keep more than one in our program. Most of the puppies we keep for show/breed prospects are put in guardian/partner homes. Ask for more info on this program. Only about 50% of those dogs will be bred in the future after we see how they mature as adults.
All puppies are scrutinized strongly for structure (Pat Hasting's Puppy Puzzle) and personality (Suzanne Clothier's method) at 8 weeks or so. Tails are docked, and dewclaws removed. Our puppies are well-socialized and raised as members of our family so they are easily adaptable in their new homes. Our deposits are refundable if we cannot get the right matched puppy for your family in a reasonable amount of time!!!
VISITORS are always welcome to come meet and play with the parents and puppies. We are happy to deliver puppies to Cheyenne WY , Lusk WY, Casper/Riverton WY or Sidney NE if that helps you out. At times we may deliver/meet in Loveland CO. You are also welcome to come to the ranch to get your puppy. Sorry, we are NOT shipping on the airlines (cargo - we will meet if you want to travel in cabin with your puppy) or traveling any further than that at this time due to COVID-19.
